Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

Making the film was not cheap. People spend a lot of money to do this. Prove is this list. To show you that this is true, we made a list of 6 most expensive movies ever made. Take a look, and enjoy.

King Kong – $207 million

Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

King Kong is a monster (a gigantic ape) that has appeared in several films since 1933. These include the groundbreaking 1933 film King Kong, the film remakes of 1976 and 2005, as well as various sequels. The character has become one of the world’s most famous movie icons and, as such, has transcended the medium, appearing in other works outside of films, such as a cartoon series, books, comics, various merchandise and paraphernalia, video games, theme park rides, and even an upcoming stage play. His role in the different narratives varies from source to source, ranging from rampaging monster to tragic antihero. The rights to the character are currently held by Universal Studios, with limited rights held by the estate of Merian C. Cooper, and perhaps certain rights in the public domain.

X-Men: The Last Stand – $210 million

Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

X-Men: The Last Stand is a 2006 superhero film and the third in the X-Men series. It is directed by Brett Ratner, who took over when Bryan Singer dropped out to direct Superman Returns. The movie revolves around a “mutant cure” that causes serious repercussions among mutants and humans, and on the mysterious resurrection of Jean Grey, who appeared to have died in X2. The film is loosely based on two X-Men comic book story arcs: writer Chris Claremont’s and artist John Byrne’s “Dark Phoenix Saga” in The Uncanny X-Men and writer Joss Whedon’s and artist John Cassaday’s six-issue “Gifted” arc in Astonishing X-Men.

The film was released on May 26, 2006 in the United States and Canada. Despite mixed reviews from critics and fans, the film became successful at the box office. Its opening-day gross of $45.5 million is the fourth-highest on record while its opening weekend gross of $103 million is the fifth highest ever.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest – $225 million

Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest is a 2006 adventure film of the Pirates of the Caribbean series, the sequel to the 2003 film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and the first film from Walt Disney Pictures to feature the current logo (even though the trailer and commercials of the movie showed one of the two previous logos). The film was directed by Gore Verbinski, written by Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. The movie received 4 Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction, Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, and won the Academy Award for Visual Effects.

The story picks up from where the first film left off when Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) discovers his debt to the villainous Davy Jones (Bill Nighy) is due, while Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) are arrested by Lord Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) for helping Jack Sparrow escape execution.

The film was shot back-to-back with the third film during 2005, and was released in Australia and the United Kingdom on July 6, 2006, and in the United States and Canada on July 7, 2006. The film received mixed reviews, with praise for its special effects and criticism for its confusing plot and lengthy running time. Despite this, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest set several records in its first three days, with an opening weekend of $136 million in the United States, and became the third movie ever to gross over $1 billion in the worldwide box office, behind Titanic and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, and is therefore Walt Disney Pictures’ most financially successful film. The budget for this movie was estimated at $225 million.

Spider-Man 3 – $258 million

Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

Spider-Man 3 is a 2007 superhero film written and directed by Sam Raimi, with a screenplay by Ivan Raimi and Alvin Sargent. It is the third film in the Spider-Man film franchise based on the fictional Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. The film stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, and Bryce Dallas Howard.

The film begins with Peter Parker basking in his success as Spider-Man, while Mary Jane Watson continues her Broadway career. Harry Osborn still seeks vengeance for his father’s death, and an escaped convict, Flint Marko, falls into a particle accelerator and is transformed into a shape-shifting sand manipulator. An extraterrestrial symbiote crashes to Earth and bonds with Peter, influencing his behavior for the worse. When Parker abandons the symbiote, it finds refuge in Eddie Brock, a rival photographer, causing Peter to face his greatest challenge.

Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is a 2007 adventure film, the third film in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. The plot follows Elizabeth Swann, Will Turner and the crew of the Black Pearl rescuing Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), from Davy Jones’s Locker, and then preparing to fight the East India Trading Company, led by Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) and Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), who plan to extinguish piracy. Gore Verbinski directed the film, as he did with the previous two. It was shot in two shoots during 2005 and 2006, the former simultaneously with the preceding film, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.

James Cameron’s Avatar – $500 million

Top 6 Most Expensive Movies Ever Made

Seven actresses you might not know are Australian

When most people think of Australian actresses and actors in Hollywood, they usually think of the obvious ones: Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, and even Russel Crowe (who’s actually from New Zealand.) But the presence of Australian actresses in the United States is far broader again.

Australian actresses have lead or major roles in a range of American television programs and movies, but they aren’t always obvious, because most adopt American accents.

Here’s a list of seven actresses you might not know are Australian (well, presuming you’re not reading this from Australia.)

Anna Torv (Fringe)

anna-torv

31 year old Anna Torv was born in Melbourne, and grew up on the Gold Coast (Queensland.) A graduate of Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Torv made her TV debut in the Australian TV series White Collar Blue, before landing a regular spot on Australian soap The Secret Life of Us. Her selection to play the role of Olivia Dunham on Fringe was considered surprising at the time given her relative lack of experience, however neither Torv, nor the show has ever looked back.

Notably, John Noble, who plays Walter Bishop on the show, is also Australian.

Yvonne Strzechowski (Chuck)

yvonne-strzechowski

26 year old Yvonne Strzechowski was born in Sydney, and had only light acting experience before Chuck. A graduate of the University of Western Sydney’s Theatre Nepean, she had a number of minor roles on Australian television, before heading the States to try her luck.

Here’s a clip about her audition for Chuck, including Strzechowski speaking without an American accent:

Poppy Montgomery (Without a Trace)

poppy-montgomery

36 year old Poppy Montgomery was born in Sydney, and moved to the United States at the age of 18. Montgmorey came into prominence with her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in the 2001 CBS mini-series Blonde, before landing the role of Samantha Spade in Without a Trace.

Melissa George (various)

melissa-george

32 year old Melissa George was born in Perth, Western Australia. Well known in Australia for her long running role on soap Home and Away, George moved to the United States in 1998, where she landed minor roles in movies including Dark City, The Limey, Mulholland Drive and Down with Love.

Her first big breakthrough was playing the role of Lauren Reed on the ABC series Alias in 2003. She’s since started or co-stared in a variety of movies, including The Amityville Horror.

Rose Byrne (Damages)

ross-byrne

29 year old Rose Byrne was born in Sydney. Byrne made her television debut in 1995 in Australian soap Echo Point, before taking on a number of smaller roles as she developed her acting skills. Her first movie role was as Dormé, the handmaiden to Natalie Portman’s Senator Padmé Amidala, in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones.

After working her way up the ranks, Byrne has appeared in numerous films, and has been playing one of the leading characters in the TV series Damages.

Miranda Otto (various)

miranda-otto
41 year old Miranda Otto was born in Brisbane, and is the daughter of well known actor (in Australia) Barry Otto. Unlike many of her fellow Australian’s, Otto started her career in movies, rising quickly to become a popular lead actress in Australian films.

Her break through role internationally was playing Éowyn, a shieldmaiden of Rohan, in The Lord of the Rings film trilogy starting in 1999. Her first major Hollywood appearance was opposite Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer in the suspense thriller What Lies Beneath in 2000. She also appeared in the TV series Cashmere Mafia, and opposite Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds.

Otto has not vigorously pursued a Hollywood career, dividing her time between productions in the United States, the UK, and Australia, including theater work.

Isla Fisher (various)

isla-fisher

33 year old Isla Fisher was born in Oman, but moved to Perth Western Australia at the age of six, and is an Australian citizen. Fisher wrote two best selling novels at the age of 18, before landing a role on Australian soap Home and Away.

Her breakthrough role came in 2002 when she played Mary-Jane, Shaggy’s love interest, in the Scooby-Do movie. In 2005, she won the Breakthrough Performance Award at the MTV Movie Awards for her role in Wedding Crashers, and has more recently starred in Confessions of a Shopaholic. She’s also engaged to Borat and Bruno actor Sacha Baron Cohen.

Here’s a David Letterman interview where Fisher’s accent came up:

Notable others (some well known as being Australia)

Rachel Griffiths (Brothers & Sisters)
Emilie de Ravin (Lost)
Frances O’Connor (Cashmere Mafia, others)
Toni Collette (United States of Tara)
Stephanie Chaves-Jacobsen (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles)
Samantha Noble (Gabriel)
Dichen Lachman (Dollhouse)

Badass Movie Weapons

Badass Movie Weapons

Smith & Wesson Model 29 (.44 Caliber) – Dirty Harry

When Clint Eastwood introduced us to the Smith & Wesson 44 Magnum (artistic license with the actual S&W model and the barrel length) is was the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off. Due to the power of the gun, there are issues with recoil (target re-acquisition is difficult) and over-penetration (this is the only time over-penetration is a problem in life), it is not a practical gun for police use. This of course is what makes it even more badass. It may only have six shots, but you only need one… per person. Since there always happens to be at least six people around that need killing, every day is Dirty Harry’s day.

Badass Movie Weapons

The Wallace Sword – Braveheart

You know what separates William Wallace (as portrayed by the ever-oppressed Mel Gibson) from his sword? Two inches. The Wallace sword is five foot, six inches long and Mel Gibson is five foot, eight inches tall. (Just for reference, the blade is wider than that at the hilt.) While they’re badass together, removing the ICP costumed hero only makes the weapon more badass. Weighing in at roughly six pounds (depending on hilting, binding, and plommet) and spilling the bloods of hundreds – if not thousands – it truly is a blade for the ages. Unfortunately, it’s currently housed in a pretty glass case at the Wallace Monument near Stirling in Scotland. When the inevitable zombie apocalypse comes, it will be the first thing stolen.

Badass Movie Weapons

Zorg ZF-1 – Fifth Element

The ZF-1 may be named like a fighter jet, but “toolbox” would have been much more fitting (Must have been a copyright dispute with Hasbro.). This thing has a titanium recharger, a 3000 round clip with bursts of three to 300, which with the Replay Button (another Zorg invention), the operator can fire one shot and, by pushing the Replay, sends every following shot to the same location. The ZF-1 also contains a rocket launcher, an arrow launcher with exploding or poisonous gas heads, a net launcher, a flamethrower (Zorg’s personal favorite), and the “Ice Cube System.” It is also equipped with a self-destruct button, is usable ambidextrously, and breaks down into four parts for easy passage through X-Ray. Oh yeah, and it transforms. The only question is, who’s a hotter co-star for a transforming weapon – Megan Fox or Milla Jovovich?

Badass Movie Weapons

Power Loader – Aliens

Versatility is the name of the game when it comes to the real life version of Exo-Squad. You can load boxes, missiles, do leg lifts, and fight big ass Queen Aliens. You are kind of limited to the claws, but do you really need a sword, gun, or chainsaw when you have an enormous exo-skeleton? No, you don’t. In the event you can’t crush your enemy with sheer hydraulic power alone, just pick it up and throw it out the nearest airlock.

Badass Movie Weapons

Klingon Bat’Leth – Star Trek

Translated from Klingon (It’s amazing what kind of resources you can find on the Internet), bat’leth means “sword of honor.” The bat’leth (it’s hard to call it a sword) was created by martial artist and effects producer Dan Curry and it’s badass. So badass in fact, that you can actually buy them online for a couple hundred bucks. What’s the only thing more badass than one long bladed weapon? Multi-bladed weapons. It worked for lightsabers, why wouldn’t it work for sword-like weapons? It’s like they combined all the features of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle’s weapons into one super weapon.

A note: The bat’leth picture above is actually the oldest, most baddest ass of all the bat’leths – The Sword of Kahless. Cool Material isn’t the local news; we’re not going to misattribute a badass weapon to some local 7-11 capers.

Badass Movie Weapons

Vera – Serenity

In the ‘Verse, Vera is Jayne’s favorite gun. What’s so special about this gun? It’s a Callahan fullbore auto-lock with a customized hair-trigger and a double-cartridge thorough gauge. In reality, it’s a modified (with mostly bolt-on parts) Saiga-12 Kalashnikov-pattern 12 gauge combat shotgun. It’s a gun so powerful it is capable of bring down spaceship sized electric nets. Vera has a following almost as large as the ‘Verse itself and is so popular that it’s in Halo 3: ODST. Unfortunately, that’s probably as close as anyone will ever come to Vera, but we can all dream.

Badass Movie Weapons

Lightsabers – Star Wars

It is impossible to talk about badass movie weapons without talking about the elegant, civilized, meter-long, surgical, energy blade. It’s a regular Billy Mays interactive dance of death infomercial with its limitless cutting possibilities, cauterizing, and shiny colors. It hums, it cracks, it does everything but pops. Oh yeah, it also deflects laser blasts. The iconic presentation of primary color in a PG-13 format isn’t just great film, it’s badass.

Badass Movie Weapons

Hanzo Sword – Kill Bill

Hattori Hanzo crafts the finest Japanese steel products in the world; no, he doesn’t work for Toyota. Hattori Hanzo is the merchant of death that Nic Cage wishes he was in Lord of War. In light of this, he vows to God to never produce another sword. Until Uma Thurman comes along and talks him into folding his greatest creation yet. She then proceeds to paint the town red. If she were to have encountered God on her quest; God would have been cut. The blade on this badass weapon is almost as fine as its wielder.

Badass Movie Weapons

Chainsaw – Evil Dead

Chainsaws have quite a few different users: artists, loggers, Tree Surgeons (Yes, really.), and Ash from the Evil Dead series. Most of those people use the gasoline-powered, motorized, bladed bike-chain of death to do things involving trees. Ash has other ideas, chief among being the dismemberment of demons, people, zombies, and anything else that makes the mistake of pissing him off… even if that something happens to be his own hand. Besides, opposable thumbs are so much less efficient than a chainsaw arm. Yeah, it throws parts in every direction and makes a huge mess, but that’s what being a man is all about. Groovy.

Badass Movie Weapons

BFG – Doom

BFG stands for Big Fucking Gun. Big. Fucking. Gun. Without a long discussion into the science of how it works (if it even exists) it shoots a big ass ball of plasma that vaporizes everything in sight. Sure, you might have to deal with a movie starring The Rock – sorry, Dwayne Johnson – but even the two hours of visual waterboarding is worth it for the BFG. Now, you could endure that, or you could just go play the videogame and tear Hell a new asshole yourself – one big fucking gun at a time.
